Tucked away in a strip mall off of University, a quaint restaurant can be found if one looks hard enough.
The Club Car Restaurant and Lounge is a locally owned restaurant located at 13435 University Ave. in Clive. Owners Mary
Wellman and Dave Tasler took a big leap when opening the restaurant in 1996. At this time, Clive was basically unchartered territory. With the country club housing developments starting to take off, they decided it could work.
The Club Car serves great food, and while that may be the staple of their business, the casual atmosphere is a nice touch.
There is railroad memorabilia hanging all around the restaurant, some in original frames. Also, model trains and cars are an added decoration throughout the building.
The food is dynamite. With daily specials, there’s no expensive time to eat at The Club Car. Plus, the happy hour is a steal.
Five-dollar appetizers and discounted drink prices are offered Monday-Friday from 3-6 p.m. and 8-10 p.m. on Saturday.
The menu consists of mostly American food. The appetizers range from nachos to flat breads, and there are nine specialty salads to choose from during lunch. Pastas are on the menu, and several choices of sandwiches including chicken, ham, pork, turkey and Italian sausage are offered as well.
That’s not all; The Club Car also takes pride in its burgers. Six kinds of burgers are available for a meal; all served with the choice of seasoned french fries, coleslaw, potato salad or a cup of soup.
They also offer a gluten-free menu. This menu contains 14 items, but the chefs also can make some items from the regular menu gluten-free as well.
The Club Car Restaurant and Lounge is a hidden, highly recommended treasure. The ambiance and great food fit perfectly together. If ever in the area, and want a quick, delicious bite to eat, look for The Club Car Restaurant and Lounge. It won’t disappoint.
